Ballymaclode Hill

Our clients brief for this project included an extensive schedule of accommodation and also called for a design of modest proportions that would sit comfortably in the existing landscape.

The use of two blocks, one for bedrooms and one for living, linked by a double height entrance fragments the massing of the building and creates interesting spaces both internally and externally, while maintaining ample family accommodation.

Particular emphasis was also given to energy efficient design and the use of passive heating, together with a vertical ground source heat pump and high levels of insulation has resulted in very low running costs for the end users.

Construction was completed in nine months by N & A Lambert Ltd. and structural engineering was provided by Tomas O’Donoghue Consulting Structural and Environmental Engineer, together with the full range of architectural services form this practice.

Farmhouse Ballyduff

This project involved the demolition of an existing derelict farm house and outbuildings and construction of a new four bedroom dwelling of traditional design on a prominent site set into a south facing hill, with magnificent views of the River Blackwater and surrounding landscape.

Professional services included sketch design, advanced design, planning application, construction drawings and periodic supervision.

The design also included for a garage with extensive solar collectors, together with an integrated wood pellet central heating system, which makes for an exceptionally efficient space and water heating system with a very low carbon footprint and running costs.

The renewable technologies have also been incorporated so as not to detract from the aesthetics of the main house. Construction was executed by direct labour and the duration was approximately 14 months.

Brideview - Tallow Bridge
